Let me start by saying: In order of things I'm good at, #1 would probably be hugging. I'm great at hugging. Then second, writing, and third, maybe crafts. Maybe. Which is why I am the perfect person to write this post on gift wrapping: if I can do it, anyone can!
Rachel and I decided to go with kraft paper as a base for all of the packages, which you should be able to find at Walmart, paper stores, etc. We then decorated the packages with beautiful vintage trims, washi tape, and jewelry available from Darlybird.

You want a closer look at that gorgeous jewelry, you say? Can do!
You can also coordinate package toppers, tags, or wrapping paper. When you have a coordinating element in the design, it will tie the whole picture together.
1. Tape doesn't stick to kraft paper very well, both scotch tape and paper washi tape (though we did use it for one design and it worked fine enough. I guess some washi tapes stick better than others).
2. If you're wrapping a package with, say, a strand of vintage sequins, break out the hot glue gun. A dot of glue at the ends of the sequins will hold them in place perfectly.
3. When I wrapped the packages, the paper was a little poofy, but I didn't think much of it. When I brought it to Rachel, she smoothed out the edges with her fingers and made it look much more crisp. She's a pro.
How are you wrapping your gifts this year? Leave a comment, we'd love to hear from you!
P.S. I jumped on Pinterest to find some inspiration for these packages. Here are some of the things I found!

What tape did you end up using to seal your packages? I have been having a lot of trouble with using scotch tape on kraft paper wrapping.
Tiffany, sorry for the late response! This is going to sound a little silly, but have you tried just a dab of hot glue? That kraft paper is so stubborn!
