We stayed at the famed ALGONQUIN in midtown. Literary and jazz hot spot, it boasts that it's the oldest operating hotel in the city. We couldn't have asked for a better location, really. And better than the location was the price. List price: $599/night. Priceline name-it-yourself price 5 days before departure: $125/night. Boo-yah. I recommend.

Thanks for the hotel suggestion. We went to NYC with family a few weeks ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn on West 57th Street. It was ok, but cost more than you paid. This weekend my husband and I are going back for a last minute get away without the kids, and I am hoping to find a gem like this one on priceline. Thanks!
